Don’t let Big Cypress National Preserve become the first national park site with new oil development under the current climate-forward administration.

Climate change threatens all people and all ecosystems. National park sites like Big Cypress should be part of the climate solution, not contribute more to the problem.

The purpose of this website is to serve as a space where the long-term efforts to protect the Everglades’ Big Cypress National Preserve from oil drilling and other threats are centralized, accessible to all. Saving Big Cypress from these threats is possible. We’ve done it before.

Big Cypress National Preserve is a vital part of the Greater Everglades ecosystem. Big Cypress was saved from jet-port development through the tireless work of diverse people and elected leaders. Let’s come together again to save our swamp from Big Oil. Taxpayers have invested over $1 billion dollars to restore the Everglades, and Big Cypress provides over 40% of the sheetflow of water that is vital to the Everglades. New oil development could derail the massive investment the public has made in restoration, to benefit the few. We can’t let that happen.

Congress gave the Secretary of the Interior the power to “limit or control” oil development in the Preserve.

State and Federal agencies have the policies in place and the power to protect this precious public land. But it is up to you to ask them to do so and to urge your representative in Congress to protect Big Cypress National Preserve.

Big Cypress National Preserve supported over 2,990 jobs & generated over $338 million in economic output for communities - in 2021 alone. More than 1,000,000 people visit Big Cypress each year - to hike, to hunt, to paddle, to birdwatch, or just to experience real Florida nature. Oil development could threaten all of this.
